Grand Wailea x UMI: Beachside Performance Kicks Off New Concert Series
Under the light of the moon on April 17, an audience at Grand Wailea’s majestic beachside venue of Molokini Gardens fell under the gentle spell of singer-songwriter UMI as she performed an intimate acoustic concert. Framed by towering palm trees and the flicker of tiki torches, UMI laid bare her heart and spirit with a moving set of her best-loved songs, featuring her signature neo-R&B soul sound.
The concert was co-organized by Grand Wailea and UMI’s label, RCA Records, and was the first in a new series of concerts that we will continue to host throughout the year. The UMI concert, timed to coincide with Earth Day on April 22, was themed to reflect UMI’s dedication to sustainability, which resonates with our own commitment to the natural environment and the arts. As a gesture of this commitment, the net proceeds from the concert were donated to our nonprofit partner Hawaiʻi Land Trust, which works to protect fragile lands that are integral to the state’s well-being and character.
During her visit to Grand Wailea, UMI was able to experience our resort in myriad ways, finding poetic and musical inspiration in our natural surroundings, and in turn inspiring our guests with her incredible creativity.
“One of my purposes as an artist is to use my platform and my voice to advocate for the Earth,” said UMI during her time on Maui with us. “I’m excited as my career grows and as I continue to expand to remind more people of how intimately connected we are to Earth, and how important it is to care for and preserve this land.”
