My mother once said, “ ʻO ka pono ke hana ʻia a iho mai nā lani” which translates to mean Continue to do good until the heavens come down. This continues to resonate with me in finding both purpose and joy in what I do.

Aloha. That is what brings me joy. Sharing aloha. Receiving aloha. There is joy in the people — both the team I work alongside and the guests I have the privilege of welcoming. There is something deeply fulfilling about being part of a collective that cares so genuinely about creating meaningful experiences. Working with this team has taught me the importance of connection, collaboration, and shared pride in the place we represent.

I find joy in learning the history of the land and the story of the property, and in being trusted to speak on its behalf. Sharing that knowledge — along with my culture — allows me to help guests see beyond the surface and feel more connected to where they are. Whether it’s answering a question, offering guidance, or simply being a warm presence, I love being a resource and a light for people. In those moments, work becomes purpose, and the resort becomes a place of true exchange and understanding.

I would encourage travelers to approach Maui with respect and reverent aloha. Listen more than you speak. Take the time to learn about the history of the land you’re visiting, listen to local voices, and support locally owned businesses. When visiting the island, visit thoughtfully, ask questions, and remember that Hawaiian culture is a living, evolving one — not just something of the past. Even small efforts to understand the meaning behind traditions or place names can lead to a deeper, more rewarding experience. I’d also encourage utilizing the resources around you — the concierge and hotel staff are invaluable guides who can help shape a more thoughtful, meaningful stay.

While we do have an expansive program, some of my favorites and the favored of our guests are hula, ‘ukulele, lauhala weaving, and papa ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi (Hawaiian Language Class). Throughout the property, guests are welcomed into moments of connection with Hawaiian culture at our Lagoon Overlook with our outdoor hula, to the simplicity of our South Hawaiian Garden Hale with various weaving techniques, or challenging themselves in Kilohana Cultural Resource Center with a little BINGO – Hawaiian style! Whether it’s weaving a lei, moving to the storytelling motions of hula, or hearing ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi spoken aloud, these experiences offer a window into the traditions and values that have shaped Hawaiʻi for generations. Music, stories, and shared practices gently remind guests that this place has a deep history and a living spirit.
