With its blissful and romantic Maui Beach location, Grand Wailea is proud to offer Civil Union ceremonies to its gay and lesbian guests starting January 1, 2012, when Hawaii´s new law legalizing these partnerships goes into effect. Grand Wailea also offers traditional commitment ceremonies, vow renewals and other social events to help our LGBT guests wishing to celebrate their special day or simply create lasting vacation memories.
Below you will find our basic Civil Union, commitment and vow renewal packages. Whichever one you choose, we´ve created a number of optional enhancements especially for our LGBT guests. You'll find those in the Optional Enhancements section below.

CIVIL UNIONS or COMMITMENT CEREMONIES
The Pilialoha Civil Union or Commitment Ceremony Package
This celebration includes the following elements:
- Use of the Wailea Seaside Chapel and Chapel Gardens for 1 ½ hours for your ceremony;
- A member of the clergy to perform your Civil Union or Commitment Ceremony;
- Your choice of one of the following: Two Traditional Hawaiian Romance Leis for a Lei Exchange and a “Circle of Love”, created with Tropical Flowers or two Floral Bouquets or Two Boutonnieres.
- Choice of either a Solo Guitarist or Solo Organist to accompany the Ceremony;
- Photography Celebration including two hours of a photographer´s time, and a photo album consisting of twenty four 4x6 or 4x5 Prints (depending on the photographer selected), and one 8x10 Portrait;
- A two-tiered cake decorated with fresh flowers (Serves 15 guests);
- One bottle of Champagne served with the cake in a garden gazebo following the ceremony;
- A commemorative Grand Wailea Civil Union or Commitment Ceremony certificate;
- Pressing of the partners´ attire;
- A Civil Unions Plus specialist to assist you.

The Mahina Celebration
This celebration includes the following elements:
- Use of the Wailea Seaside Chapel and Chapel Gardens for 1 ½ hours for your Ceremony

- Two Floral Bouquets or Two Maile Leis with Orchids
- An altar arrangement of forty candles create a romantic glow
- The aisle is a glow with luminary style pillar candles and a flower petal scatter that will guide you to the altar
- A Solo Classical Harpist to play your selection of songs for the service
- Photography Celebration including two hours of a photographer's time, and a photo album consisting of twenty four 4x6 or 4x5 Prints (depending on the photographer selected), and one 8x10 Portrait;
- A two-tiered cake decorated with fresh flowers (Serves 15 guests);
- One bottle of Champagne served with the cake in a garden gazebo following the ceremony;

This celebration includes the following elements:

- A member of the clergy to perform your Civil Union or Commitment Ceremony;
- Two Hawaiian White Orchid Romance Leis for a Lei Exchange and either Two Floral Bouquets or Two Boutonnieres
- Choice of either a Solo Guitarist, Harpist or Violinist to accompany the Ceremony
- Photography Celebration including two hours of a photographer's time, and a photo album consisting of twenty four 4x6 or 4x5 Prints (depending on the photographer selected), and one 8x10 Portrait;

Social events for our gay and lesbian guests are highly customizable. Couples are encouraged to select among the following optional enhancements, which can be customized to your package to create a unique and memorable event.
- iPad 2 loaded with Civil Union/commitment ceremony photos in a curated slideshow
- Matching high–end luggage tags;
- Romantic couples massage with traditional Hawaiian treatments or day-of-beauty salon preparation treatments: hair, mani/pedi, facial, make up;
- Personal fitness session to fine–tune those physiques for the big day;
- Standing paddle board or surfing lessons for two;
- Catered romantic gourmet dinner for two in–suite at Ho´olei by chef (using unique Hawaiian ingredients) and serving staff;

CIVIL UNIONS PLUS Q and A
What is our first step?
The Grand Wailea Resort can book civil union and other ceremonies seven days a week. We offer ceremonies in the Chapel, the Chapel Gardens, the Gazebos and by a beautiful Waterfall. After deciding on a time frame, contact the Grand Wailea Catering Department to check on the availability. Once the date and time have been established for your ceremony, we will send you a contract outlining the services selected. We require a 50% nonrefundable deposit that will secure the date, time and location. The contract must be signed and returned to confirm the booking along with a required 50% deposit payment.
How far in advance do we need to book?
We encourage you to book as soon as possible. Most Hawaiian romantic ceremonies book six months to one year in advance of the ceremony. The sooner we are contacted, the better we can accommodate your request. As soon as you know the date and time, the more chance you will have to secure the date and time you want for your Maui ceremony. However, even if you decide last minute, please feel free to call us about availability. We will always try our best to accommodate you.
When do we need to make our guest room reservations?
Due to the popularity of the Resort, couples are advised to make room reservations before confirming the date of their ceremony. You may contact reservations at 800-888-6100 or check availability on this website.
How do we contact someone about booking our Civil Union, Commitment Ceremony, Vow Renewal or Reception?
In order to better serve you, our Catering department asks that you fill out the Request for Information. When it is completed click, ‘Submit’. Upon receipt of your completed form the information will be reviewed and you will receive an email linking you to an online brochure for your review. A Civil Unions Plus specialist from our Catering Department will be assigned to you and will contact you directly from the information you have provided on the form.
What services does the Civil Unions Plus Specialist do for me?
The Civil Unions Plus specialist that is assigned to you will work with you to see you through every step of the planning process. Working closely with you, the specialist will be your contact for all of the ceremony and reception arrangements. Together you will determine and design what type of flowers, music, photographer, videographer and clergy member you would like for your ceremony. Likewise, they will work to help you create the design/décor and atmosphere you see for your reception celebration. You can relax while your specialist handles all hiring, ordering, confirmations and coordination for everything to insure your day will run smoothly.
Is our Hawaii Civil Union valid in the state where we live?
Recognition of civil unions varies by state and country. Please check the jurisdiction where you live.
Do we need to bring our own attire?
It is recommended that the couple bring their own attire or have it shipped to the resort in advance. There is a formal wear shop close to the hotel that can provide tuxedos. For an additional cost, the resort´s professional Valet Laundry staff can assist with any steaming or pressing of the ceremony party´s attire as well. Please request the service at least 24 hours prior to the ceremony. There are shops on Maui that carry appropriate attire for brides and grooms to be.
What is your payment schedule?
In order to confirm a date and time, a non–refundable deposit of 50% of the total package price, along with your signed confirmation letter, is required at the time of booking your Hawaiian ceremony. The complete remaining balance is due 30 days before the ceremony. All major credit cards are accepted for payment. For travel professionals, we do not offer discounts or commissions for any services.
Do we get a discount on rooms?
To learn more about special rates, call Room Reservations directly at (800) 888–6100. The Room Reservations department will require a two–night deposit. Ask your Civil Unions Plus specialist about our Reservations option that is now available. Our Reservations system is a simple way for you to create a personalized reservations website for all of your guests to access when making their guest room reservations.
